Traffic Problems - Colton Retail Park

Since the traffic lights were put in at the entry/exit to Colton Retail Park there is still traffic queing around the car park. There are reports that some people have been waiting nearly an hour to get out. The traffic trying to enter the retail park also backs up onto the roundabout & even towards the M1.

There is clearly still a problem.

Our opinion? - Lots of heavy hitting retailers (Sainsburys, Boots, Argos etc.) & fast food restaurants (McDonalds, KFC etc) and just one road in and out. Demand outweighs capacity.

Our solution? Walk.

We would like to hear your comments.

The company that dealt with all the original plans is called Local Dialogue. I'm sure they are aware of the current situation & would like to hear your comments. Contact details below.

Traffic Improvements - Colton Sainsbury's

After feedback regarding the recent proposal's for improvements to Colton Sainsburys, there was a lot of concern voiced regarding trafiic around the store. This is now to be addressed. Please find below a statement from Local Dialogue, the company working on behalf of Sainsbury's regarding the propsosed changes.

To improve access to and from the site, the current entrance and exit on Stile Hill Way will undergo significant improvements. The junction will be widened to accommodate an additional exit lane and traffic lights will be introduced, improving traffic flow and safety into the store.

The primary reason for the current delays in exiting the store is vehicles turning right out of the store, blocking vehicles turning left. These changes will reduce delays by enabling right turning vehicles to exit the site more easily.

Sainsbury's transport specialists are confident that the introduction of traffic lights and the widening of the exit lanes means that an additional exit for the site is not required.
It is important to note that the work on the junction is entirely separate from Sainsbury's planned extension of the store, and has been approved by Leeds City Council under a previous planning permission. Sainsbury's would like to implement the improvements quickly in response to your feedback and are working with the Council and the retail park landlords to deliver these improvements before the end of the year.

Should the new extension also gain planning approval, the small increase in traffic that is predicted to occur will not harm the effectiveness of the newly designed junction.

NEW ROUTE FOR No.18 ENDANGERS SCHOOL CHILDREN IN COLTON

Helen Johnson, headteacher at Colton Primary School and governors have appealed without success to First Bus to re-route the No 18 away from narrow School Lane.

Failing a rerouting, the school has asked that First Bus changes its schedules to avoid pupil peak periods. So far this has also failed.

When cars are parked legally and not on the zig-zag markings outside the school, buses still have difficulty manoeuvring safely.

It's feared that sooner or later a child will be killed or seriously injured on this road.

The service was first routed down School Lane in February.

The school, which has 250 pupils, did not qualify for a formal crossing point said Mrs Johnson. She added: "We try to encourage pupils and their parents to walk to and from school and a large proportion do so now.

A First spokesman said: "We have some sympathy with the school at present but the issue of traffic management is one they need to consider very seriously.

New & improved ColtonVillage site for 2009!

It's been a while but the new improved Colton Village website has finally arrived!

Hopefully the site will be easier to navigate than the last one & certainly easier for me to keep up to date.

I still need to update across the whole site so please be patient. I would be interested to know your thoughts on the new look site & any suggestions you think could improve it.

Please also feel free to collar me (excuse the pun) while I'm walking around Colton with my dog. He's the black & white leggy collie that you probably only see as a blur as he goes sprinting past you. (See pic below)

Cheers, Graham

PS Don't forget to send me information to keep the site updated. It is what YOU make it!
